Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey 2012 (SDKI12) is the seventh IDHS regarding demographic and health conditions in Indonesia. The first survey was Indonesia Contraceptive Prevalence Survey conducted in 1987, the second to fifth is IDHS 1991, SDKI1994, IDHS, 1997, 2002-2003 IDHS, and SDKI2007. SDKI12 is a survey designed to provide information on the birth rate, mortality, family planning and health.

IDHS has several objectives as follows:

    Provides data on fertility behavior, family planning, maternal and child health, maternal mortality, and knowledge about AIDS and STDs that can be used by program managers, policy makers, and researchers in assessing and meyempurnakan existing programs.
    Measuring changes - changes that occur in the birth rate and the use of birth control, as well as the study of factors - factors that influence it, such as the pattern and marital status, area of ​​residence, education, feeding habits, and knowledge of, use of, and provision of tools - contraceptives.
    Measure the achievement of the objectives of the national health programs, particularly those related to maternal health programs and child development.
    Assess the participation and use of health services by men for the whole family.
    Provide baseline data that can be compared internationally with state - of other countries and may be used by program managers, policy makers, and researchers in the field of fertility, family planning, and health.
